Signature Mural & Finish, Inc. is a mural and decorative painting company. Decorative painting encompasses faux finishing, metallic finishes, stenciling and decorative plasters and textures. We do interiors and exteriors, commercial and residential - at Signature Mural & Finish, we do it all.

Murals
We paint in a variety of styles: Cartoon, loose impressionistic, realism and trompe l'oeil (a higher level of realism that literally fools the eye). Murals are custom-created for the client and the space. They can be painted directly on the wall or painted on canvas and applied like wallpaper. The advantage of the latter is that it can be removed and put back up in another location, and most of the work is done onsite, with less inconvenience for the home owner.

Faux Finishing
Faux literally means "fake," and refers to using paint to simulate other materials. The most common faux finishes are linen, wood graining, stone and marble. The general term “Faux Finish” is often used to mean decorative painting or decorative finishes.

Decorative Finishes
Decorative Finishing includes glazes, rag work, stripes, stencils, gilding, interesting plasters, metallic paints, and, yes, even sponge painting. The list goes on. In some cases we build up actual textures with specialty plasters, and in others we simulate them visually in paints and glazes. As artisans, we create many finishes on the spot to fit the parameters of the project.

Stencils
Stencils have moved beyond the country themes of ducks and chickens. They can be created with interconnected repeat patterns for beautiful brocades, classic tile designs, intricate ceiling designs and textured with decorative plasters. Many complicated designs, formerly impossible, are now created with single use low tack stencils.

JaDecor
An IBR certified "green" product, JaDecor is a cotton-based wall covering that is trowel applied, creating the effect of a seamless wallpaper. It has thermal and sound-dampening capabilities (perfect for a media room). It is non—electrostatic and will not mold. It has a class A fire rating, is easily repairable and is custom colored. JaDecor can only be applied by certified installers, which we are! www.jadecor.com

Lime Plasters and Paints
Currently there is a resurgence of the use of traditional Italian lime plasters. They are a "green" product that ages beautifully. Lime is vapor-permeable, and resists water condensation. We say it helps the wall to breathe, and releases dampness contained within the wall. A natural bactericide, it even kills mold. On a technical level, lime plasters have a natural elasticity that tends to inhibit the small cracks found with most other plasters.

Venetian Plaster
Venetian Plaster (VP) is actually a technique rather than a product. Traditionally it is a thin aged lime plaster with finely ground marble dust applied in several layers, and “burnished” (polished with the trowel). The end result is a smooth, shiny surface with a lot of visual depth. Many wonderful acrylic versions are now available. The term VP has evolved to refer to many different trowel applied decorative plasters.

Aurastone Countertop Overlays
Overlays go directly over existing surfaces such as laminate, formica and wood. This allows for re-facing a counter without removing the existing surfaces. Aurastone is an eco-friendly architectural overlay that can simulate stone, marble and granite. It is extremely durable, heat resistance to 450 degrees and food safe, and can be used both interior and exterior. Aurastone is only available through trained installers. www.Aurastone.com

Eco-Friendly Options
Many of our clients have asked for more eco-friendly options. Fortunately the whole industry is catching on. There are many low VOC (volatile organic compound) paints available, and several with no VOCs. In addition to the completely “green” clays and lime plasters, many of the acrylic-based decorative plasters have recently been reformulated. Refinishing cabinets or countertops is another eco-friendly option. There is less use of raw materials and construction waste. The fact is we don’t want to work with toxic products all day. We can help recommend which product is best for your job.
