FAQs

What inspires your mural designs?

Inspiration can come from a feeling, a color scheme or a theme. We listen to our clients' dreams about how they’d like to transform their rooms. We have a variety of techniques to translate a homeowner’s desires into a living space that can connote sophistication, cheerfulness, serenity, a historical period, a favorite vacation spot or something completely unexpected.

Can you site examples of some murals themes you have created?

  • We transformed an interior wall into an extremely naturalistic landscape of woodland plants, towering trees and a single cream-colored unicorn. The shimmer of mica flakes helped create the glow of sunlight creating a luminosity in the whole room.
  • We created a room with a view for a British colonial dining room with trompe l’oeil that fools the eye into seeing a realistic image. It feels as though you are standing at a balustrade framing a lush green landscape with a waterfall. We brought the outdoors in with a classical style to complement the elegance and architectural elements of the room.
  • Another family wanted walls depicting a day at Avalon Beach, their favorite vacation spot. Our sandy dune leads to the shoreline replete with seagulls, colorful umbrellas, sunbathers and a wooden boat against a cerulean blue sky with swirling clouds.

Do the materials used hold up well in active households with children?

Any surface can be a blank canvas if primed and prepared properly including concrete floors, ceilings, walls or clapboard siding. The paints and finishes we use are inherently fade and stain resistant and hand painted floors are sealed with a clear topcoat to resist wear and tear. We work with environmentally responsible products and low or no VOC (volatile organic compound) options are usually available. Much of our work is eminently child-friendly!

When a chosen finish is more delicate or difficult to repair, we will always let you know, and offer other options if necessary.

Have you created murals in a retail or business setting?

Yes! In lobbies, entry ways, meeting spaces and merchandise display areas, we use painted murals, faux finishes and trompe l’oeil to tantalize taste buds in restaurants, invite the wonder of children in toy stores and make merchandise stand out with exuberance. Our finishes work on countertops and backsplashes as well for transformations in restrooms and bars.

How can I be sure the colors will fit with my color scheme?

You can choose to have samples of a specialty finish created with your color choices or we can create your mural as a watercolor painting. The design fee for this is credited against your final balance.

Will there be much disruption in my household or business while you are working?

Of course we will need obstructions or furniture temporarily removed to keep them safe from the project area. At the end of each day, we clean up our work area as much as possible. We work with environmentally friendly, non-toxic, water-based materials. You will be fully apprised of the approximate duration of the project from start to finish.

The Signature Mural vehicles look like beautiful rolling tropical jungles. How long did it take to paint them?

It did not take long to paint them—it took a lifetime preparing and studying so we could paint them.
