There seems to be another baby boom going on. Or at least a boom in baby nurseries. We’ve been blessed (as in “blessed event”) to be a part of these goings on.
During the summer we got a call to paint clouds on the ceiling, a tree and wall quote for a “soon to arrive” little boy named Luke. when I arrived the room wall all white except for a wallpaper world map affixed to an entire wall.

The homeowner showed me her fabrics, furniture and other inspirations. We sketched out a design and picked a blue for the sky.
When I returned the room was blue & I was ready to begin.

I first masked off the entire room to protect it from overspray.

I masked myself off for the same reason.

Then I got to go wild with a spray gun. I don’t think that spraying clouds will ever get old. It’s just too much fun!

Next came the fantasy tree. There were leaves from a weeping willow & a spiral trunk. Luke’s mother also had me do some hand lettering of a bible quote for welcoming her son into the world.
What an absolutely elegant room!

Northshore to Lakeshore, A Fun Cityscape |
|
A Summer Cityscape shows the Chicago skyline in a kids playroom, Winnetka, IL.
Moving up to Winnetka, IL from Lincoln Park, Chicago, here is a basement to liven up a playroom. This family loves the trees and greenery of the North Shore, but misses their city. We get pretty attached to this city, you know. Its great when you finally round a bend, driving home after a long trip, and the skyline suddenly pops into view.
We do a scale drawing to check that everyone is on the same page
Here we capture that feeling in a casual, fun rendition on the playroom walls, with a mural that will be sure to please for years to come.
Phase one - the builder installs the treehouse
Phase two: bring in the paint geeks!
First we block in the sky
Then the green stuff
Some energetic clouds scud across the sky
And a strong tree appears to hold up the treehouse, with a fine Summer day in the city off in the middle distance.
See it in action!

Girl's bedroom, Northbrook, IL.
So, you were wondering what to do with your bedroom, right?
Well, first ... paint it pink.
A really glowing, full on, I'm PINK and you shall know it to the pits of your eyeballs pink.
And then you'll need something bright & fun ... (because the pink set the mood, and one can only go forth all inspired from there)
A little over here, and a little over there.
Debby went to town with lots of pinks & purples on the tie-dye. It got wilder & glowier as the day went on.
And as Debby painted the bright & beautiful "I Am Girl, Hear Me Roar" visual statement, I ran around the room with a bunch of stencils we cut last week. And if you're going to have a beautiful hibiscus painted border over there, then you're going to need some over there as well, right? Give a Mouse a Cookie Syndrome.
Until
I'm not a pink-inclined gal myself, but even I think this looks mighty fine!
(Debby is off to the side here, adding that its all lies, we really took the wall down, crumpled it up & tied knots in it, etc.)
Yay, Ties dye & stencils! |
Good Morning!
Our murals have included a few nurseries, lately - so I reckon its time to get started on loading some pictures up here so that you can see them.
This one is in Lincoln Park. Our clients are having twins, boy & girl, so they want the room to be a gender-neutral place, not too much either way. But beautiful, right? We all want beautiful happy spaces to be living in. Customizing your walls with paint, whether it is just a great solid color, faux finish or a forest mural is a pretty high-impact low-investment way to go. Possibly I am a little biased.
So. Anyway.
A couple of trees, one arching over each crib. A little asymetry so we don't feel like we're doing any cookie-cutter stuff, and darker wood for this room as the furniture is a really dark wood.
The hutch will go in the middle. And as usual, we've got all the furniture piled in the middle of the room so that we can drag our ladders around in circles.
It will get like that, eh? An occupational hazard. It will come to the point where we won't be able to enter a friend's house without dragging all the furniture into the middle of the room and taking all the fixtures off the bathroom walls.

Then there's 2 nice sunshiny windows, and the border goes around the rest of the walls.

Debby keeps being behind the camera - I was just touching up the leaves here a bit, but this one was her department. Anything that involves measuring I tend to grin & point to her. Poor Boss! Though I think she gets some kind of satisfaction from clean lines and good perspective, well measured and level things, etc. Me too, I guess. Too impatient to do it, though.

Ah - wonderful! Design that is regular & organic at the same time. Butterflies & a few flowers followed. Pics of them will have to wait for the next installment, though.
Well, I hope everyone is having a good week out there. Lots of nice rain, for the garden.
We're doing more trees next week & expanding our fairy line. Stop back & take a look! |
