Deb Spertus is founder and owner of Signature Mural & Finish, Inc. She holds a BA from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MA from Middlebury Language School in Paris. She spent 3 years in Paris where she studied at L’Ecole du Louvre, worked at the Musée des Art Décoratifs, and generally absorbed the visuals and the culture, as most artists are inclined to do. Since her return, she has studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Evanston Art Center and in private studios of practicing artists. For years she was a studio artist focusing primarily on realistic painting. In 2002, she was an artist-in-residence at the Chicago Cliff Dwellers Club.
In 2003, Deb was asked to paint a mural at Lincolnwood Elementary School in Evanston, IL where her daughters attended school. That success lead to a transition from canvas to walls and she has never turned back. She has expanded her repertoire with advanced training in mural painting, decorative and faux painting, Italian plasters, cabinet and furniture refinishing.
In 2006, Deb founded Signature Mural & Finish. Six months later she hired Paula Clayton, a designer and painter trained at Western Michigan University. While Paula has returned to her native New Zealand, Deb continues to thrive on collaboration with other decorative artists and muralists. Together they bring the one-of-a-kind Signature Mural & Finish touch to murals and finishes throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
