At a recent ASID/IP (that’s the American Society of Interior Designers/Industry Partners) mixer event, I met many wonderful designers, vendors and service providers. All of whom made it to my virtual rolodex. I would love to share any names with those who may be interested.
One particular vendor caught my attention. His name is Larry Paddock and He is a distributor/installer of custom moulded raised panel wainscoting from IntriG. www.intrig.net
There are two big differences between this system of wainscoting and traditional systems. First, the finished installed wainscot is the perfect canvas to work with! It is made of a solid stable material that will not shift, crack or split. Second is from an installation point of view.
One solid piece going up & down & around the landing!
Traditional systems are made of multiple pieces that are assembled on site. With the Intrig wainscot system, you will get one piece that you can put directly on the wall. It’s a single overlay that goes directly on your wall - Up to 12 feet in a seamless section! The installation is clearly faster and significantly more cost effective.

Imagine how long this beautiful curved stairwell would take if done by hand
They also offer shaped designs - not just rectangles. And, their panels are computer-balanced so that you don't have any partial sections at the end of your wall.
How cool is that!
If solid color doesn’t do it for you, give us a call. We could paint:
• Faux wood grain
• Decorative paintings in the panels
• Gilding
• Go wild!

Back in June I met up with my Mum in Santa Monica. She was on her way to see the newest member of our family, Joshua, in Zurich. We spent a few days together, went to the Getty, hung out on the 3rd Street Promenade, and stayed at the Santa Monica YHA.
Us with the palm trees at the YHA hostel, and a ripped sleeve in a painting that we thought was pretty darn cool, Getty Art Museum.
The reason you're getting to hear about it is that we took a day trip over to Anaheim and visited the Vella Studios and factory. Vella is an earth based plaster, venetian plaster system, and relatively inexpensive. They let us come in & take a look around, play with the goop & make samples all day long. It was very exciting for a couple of arty nosey types like us!
So if you don't mind a foray into the land of "hey, come take a look at our family vacation slides" check out the short video:

Well, Debby & her kids went to this cool vacation spot last Fall ...
http://www.treehouses.com/index.cfm
Check it out. It looks absolutely amazing & they had a blast. There are zip lines & running water & claw foot bathtubs & bridges between trees. Annnnnnd ... they made some tie-dye t-shirts while they were there.
.
So Debby came back all obsessed with figuring out how to paint that on a wall, because we have been running various teen ideas around in our heads lately, and this seemed like a good one. Her upstairs walls have been turned into our Mess Around With Ideas zone. And this is another one of those decorative paint methods that lands somewhere between a mural and a faux finish.
As you can see from the first pic - that's a big spiral. And its a great method for getting some wild color on a feature wall, completely customizable, and we reckon we can do regular wall in about a day ... so it's an affordable option, too! Yippee! |
OK - we've done these a couple of times over the last few years. We are getting pretty darn efficient at loading, setting up, breaking down & re-loading, let me tell you!
This year Wilmette was an absolute blast. Julie & Karen from the Wilmette Chamber of Commerce are about the same, and great organizers. So I guess, what can you expect? The music was great, and we were talking to people left right & center both days solid. We had our regular spot back outside of Lambrechts Jewelers on Central Street (

) so we were all happy to see each other again. It's kind of cool having a regular spot & people you catch up with, eh?
So here's the canvas's painted a la' performing monkey ...
Oh drats. I forgot the Cyberduck thing. Hang on.
